Our standards

Editorial policy

WorkFree exists to help people make a high-stakes money decision with honest information. That only works if the content is accurate, independent, and kept current. Here is how we try to earn that trust.

Who writes and reviews

Every page is written and edited by a named person, founder and editor Shahzad Arsi, and published with a visible byline and a last-updated date so you know who stands behind it and when it was last checked. Nothing is auto-generated and pushed live unread.

To be clear about what that byline means: Shahzad is a researcher and editor, not a licensed financial planner, attorney, or tax adviser. Our accuracy comes from method, not from professional credentials. Each money or benefits topic is built from primary, official sources, linked in a "Sources and references" section on the page, rather than from personal opinion, and anything we cannot verify against an authoritative source is either left out or clearly flagged as general or uncertain.

Specialist review. For the most consequential topics, health coverage, retirement accounts, unemployment eligibility, and state employment law, we are adding review by appropriately qualified professionals. Where a page has been reviewed by a named specialist, that person and their credentials are shown on the page. Where it has not, we do not imply that it has. We would rather be transparent about the gap than claim an expertise we have not yet documented.

How we write

  • Clear language over jargon. If a term needs explaining, we explain it.
  • Specific over generic. Real trade-offs, real numbers, and the cases where the honest answer is "not yet" or "it depends, and here is on what."
  • Country-aware. Where rules differ across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Ireland, we say so rather than assuming one default.
  • Transparent tools. Every calculator publishes its formula and assumptions on the methodology page.

Accuracy and sources

We aim to reflect the current, mainstream understanding of how job exits work financially and practically. Where a rule is set by law or varies by jurisdiction, we describe it in general terms and tell you to verify the specifics for your situation, because contracts and regulations change and override defaults. We do not present estimates as guarantees.

What counts as an acceptable source. For legal, tax, benefits, and statistical claims we rely on primary, official sources, government agencies and recognised public institutions such as the IRS, the U.S. Department of Labor, HealthCare.gov, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Reserve, and the Kaiser Family Foundation, and we link the original page rather than a news article describing it. Guides that cover money or benefits carry a visible "Sources and references" section so you can check the primary source yourself.

Independence

Our guidance is not for sale. Where a page carries advertising or, in future, an affiliate link, it is disclosed on our advertising disclosure page, and it never changes what we recommend. We will not tell you to quit, or not to quit, to suit an advertiser.

Updates and corrections

Guides are revised as costs, rules, and best practice move, and the last-updated date on each page reflects its most recent review. Pages that depend on law or benefit rules, including health coverage, retirement accounts, unemployment, and country or state guides, are re-checked against their sources on a regular cycle, at least every six months and whenever we learn a relevant rule has changed. When a change is material, we update the page and revise its date rather than leaving stale guidance live.

If you find an error, a broken formula, or an outdated rule, please report it through the contact page with the page name. We correct confirmed errors promptly, and for anything material we note the change. How we handle and record corrections is set out in our corrections policy.

What we do not do

WorkFree is educational, not a licensed financial, legal, or tax adviser. We do not give personal advice, we do not see your full circumstances, and our tools produce estimates from the figures you enter. For decisions with real money or legal weight, confirm anything that matters with a qualified professional. See our disclaimer for the full statement.
